I do not know if you have heard of the YXL student leadership conferences or not. If you have not, then let me give a couple of the highlights. YXL is a leadership conference for high school students that emphasizes the development of a reformed world and life view and application of our world view to everyday life. We ask churches to nominate and approve select students to attend YXL for one week each summer. Our hope then is to spend a week with the students studying scripture, worshipping together, participating in leadership activities and building new relationships so that they can return home and put into practice what they have learned. This year students can chose from one of three exciting conferences. YXL, which is run by Christian Education and Publications at Covenant College July 5-11 (www.pcacep.org/yxl), YXL Northeast at Refreshing Mountain Conference Center in Ephrata, PA July 11-15th (www.pcacep.org/yxl) and YXL Glorieta in Glorieta, NM July 10-17th. (www.yxlglorieta.org). Each conference
has its own distinct personality but all are committed to seeing young people develop as Christian leaders.
Interestingly enough, YXL and YXL Northeast both chose the theme for the conference as Imagine Big taken from Ephesians 3:20-21. A significant reason was the question asked of me by the denominational leader and the issues it
raised. Because Ephesians addresses sin, the gospel, unity in Christ and instructions on how we should live, the staff at CEP felt like preaching through the book of Ephesians during the conference would be a great way to help students better understand how the gospel changes our lives and impacts daily living. During the course of the week at the YXL run by CEP at Covenant College students will be given opportunity to not only hear the word preached and taught from Ephesians but will be able grow as a leader during our activities such as ministry projects and whitewater rafting. You can find out more about the other conferences by checking out their websites.
