- Article
- June 1, 1989

By George W. Mitchell. Our actions are born in our minds. The issues of life flow out of the heart (Proverbs 4:23). This is where the battle and struggle really begins, and it would appear that many of us are losing the fight. Do you have trouble with your actions, thoughts and words? Be imitators of God and love as Christ has loved you!

By Faythe A. Dobbs. Promise, in one sense, is an agreement to do (or not do) something. Because of the cross and Christ’s work there, I can put my trust in Him. I agree to join in covenant relationship with Him. Promise, in another sense, means to give a basis for expectation. What can we expect as a result of the cross for our lives?
Building a Case in Prayer

By Richard Pratt. God has invited us to build a case before Him in prayer. Instead of simply asking for things as quickly as possible, we should take the time to create an elaborate rationale for our requests. When we build a case in prayer, we are not informing God of anything He does not already know. Nor are we twisting His arm to do something He does not care to do.
Ministering to the Divorced

By Tom Jones. Silence is not support. It is wrong to assume that the divorced person would rather not talk about it or that if you brought up the subject you would only be making things worse. Divorced people already feel like lepers because friends no longer want to talk to them. If you will not talk, you increase the silence surrounding the divorced and drive them more deeply into a sense of isolation.

By Walter Wood. They represent the majority of the single-adult population in churches with over 500 people. They also represent the most energetic and available source of ministry in the church in America today. They usually have more energy and less responsibility than any other adult group in the church. A church that fails to aggressively minister to its singles and fails to strategically seek to reach unchurched singles is missing an opportunity and a significant responsibility.

By Bob Burns. We must not stick our heads in the sand like the proverbial ostrich while crying out “woe is me” over the condition of our society. Rather, we must maintain our commitment to biblical family values while we earnestly reach out to those who do not fit into our molds. And a large segment of these family units that we are called to reach can be classified as “single adults.”
Developing a Christian Mind

Obviously education is aimed at people. It is doing something to them and with them in such a way that certain things will result - knowledge, skills and values. If the PCA is going to have the long-range impact on the world that I believe God wants us to have, we not only have to call men to faith in Christ and repentance of sin, but we also have to be discipled to have a Christian mind.

By Frank Brock. Developing the Christian mind begins with knowledge of the Bible, but it does not end there. At Covenant we believe that good education is the best preparation for a good job. More important than getting a good job is knowing how to do a job well. For this reason Covenant is extremely rigorous compared tomost other colleges, especially the large public universities.
