Two Former CEP Employees go to be with the Lord

Rev Robert G. Sweet and Dr. Dwight T. Linton were suddenly called to their eternal home this week.  Sweet worked with CEP, as editor of the PCA Messenger, the denominational magazine at that time, and coordinator of men’s ministry later.  Bob was survived by his wife Shirley, two daughters and one son.  The memorial service was held at the Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church, near Gainesville, Ga, Monday January 11th.  Among those officiating were Rev. John Batusic and Rev. Kennedy Smartt.  Bob slipped on the ice on Friday, January 8th, and died soon thereafter.  His ministry of discipleship was the highlight of the service and many testified to his mentoring them along the way.

Attending the funeral from Rock Hill S.C. was Dr. Dwight Linton former missionary to Korea and an 11 year staff member with CEP. Dwight assisted primarily in multicultural ministry and training.  He died in an auto accident returning to Rock Hill on his way home from attending Sweet’s memorial service.  They overlapped at CEP for six years and later attended the Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church.   Sweet was 78 and Linton 82.  Dwight is survived by his wife Marjory Ann (Marge), and five children.  Dwight had a remarkable ministry to the PCA Korean Churches in the 80’s and 90’s.  He started the Open Door Community Church where Bob Sweet was preaching regularly.

Charles Dunahoo, coordinator, has remarked about the influence that both men had on the kingdom, the church, the PCA particularly and the ministry of CEP.  "Sweet was a co-worker and counselor to me during that time and Linton was instrumental in working through cultural, theological, and ecclesiological issues with him said Dunahoo.  He and Marge were personal friends and faithful prayer partners, as were Bob and Shirley."

Dunahoo encourages the CEP supporters to uphold both families in prayer and especially the spouses of both.

I enjoyed working with both men for several years at CEP. They will both be missed.

FROM BILL IVERSON--

MY WIFE ANN AND I "TRIPLE DATED" ON  KEY BISCAYNE WITH  YOUNG BOB SWEET  AND SHIRLEY ET AL AND WE SHARED A FUN TIME REMEMBERING OUR TEEN YEARS AND ALL THE GRAND FOLLIES--- BUT AS WELL WE SHARED THE JOYS OF THE GOSPEL AND MINISTRY.

BOB GOT EXCITED, AND TO MY SUPRISE HE DID A VAST  SWIFT TURNABOUT, SUPPORTED BY SHIRLEY, AND BECAME A WISE, PASSIONATE, ERUDITE, KIND, EMPATHETIC AND ENJOYABLE MAN OF GOD.   HE LOVED HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN WAS EXTRA GOOD AT BEING -A FRIEND, HUSBAND, FATHER, PREACHER, WRITER, COUNSELOR AND A FOR REAL MAN!!!

IT HAS BEEN A PREOFOUND VACUUM IN MY LIFE TO BE IN MINISTRY FOR 50 YEARS AWAY FROM ROOTS AND FRIENDS, BUT  ALWAYS FELT CLOSE TO BOB SWEET AND DWIGHT LINTON IN THE "COMMUNION OF SAINTS" THOUGH THE CALL OF GOD KEPT US SEPARATED IN TIME AND DISTANCE.

MY HEART IS WITH SHIRLEY AND THE FAMILY IN THESE TIMES OF "PAIN'S SWEET SORROW."

REMEMBERING FONDLY AND GRATEFULLY,

BILL IVERSON

Reverend Linton was the most inspiring, and loving person I have ever known, sacrificing countless hours in personal ministry with me over the year. I know his eternal reward will be great.

Dwight and Marjorie were long-time fellow missionaies and friends. At the long-ago Philadelphia Gen'l Assembly, we were fellow guests at a dinner given by Central Korean Church. Dwight spoke in Korean, and Lois and I in Japanese, conversing with our hosts.  We have many great memories ...Our prayers are with both families...Bob and Dwight together. ...A great loss for us, but heaven for them.  Harold Borchert
